For the first time in its history, the Junior League of Raleigh’s annual holiday fundraising event, A Shopping SPREE!, is accepting applications from Wake County brick-and-mortar businesses to participate in the event. A Shopping SPREE! is a four-day shopping expo that draws in over 160 vendors and over 12,000 shoppers in late October/early November – just in time for the holiday gift-giving season. The event was first held in 1985 and has been popular with shoppers since. To date, the event has raised over $2.5 million to benefit the local chapter of the Junior League as well as youth programs in the area.
As Wake County continues to grow exponentially, more businesses have been established and have expanded over the years. This event is a great opportunity for businesses to expose themselves to a larger pool of consumers as well as become more involved with the community and serve a great cause. Additionally, with the “shop local†movement now a favorable mindset amongst consumers, this is a great move on behalf of the Junior League of Raleigh. As Selene Brent, current President of the Raleigh chapter of the Junior League stated, “There are so many great boutiques, specialty shops and unique merchants within our area and we know that our shoppers will delight in seeing some of their favorites at the show.â€
Being that the event draws in a large crowd over the span of four days, the range of vendors accepted to participate in the event is vast. Previous vendors have included a number of boutiques and specialty clothing stores, gift and accessory shops, hand-crafted jewelry, gourmet food companies, product development and media/marketing consulting business, wineries, and bookstores. A few local businesses that have participated in the past include Headbands of Hope, Oak City Collective, Wallflowers Media, Chapel Hill Toffee, Olley Oxen, and Augusta’s Pimento Cheese. It is exciting that the Junior League is accepting applications from Wake County businesses as this will add a new dynamic to the event!
