“A Flamboyant Bottle Shop and a Butch Gift Shop”
If you have made your way down Hillsborough Street lately, you may have seen The Green Monkey next to Raleigh French Bakery. You may have heard it was a gift shop, you may have heard it was a bar, or you may have heard it was a store with dog treats! Whatever you have heard – all of the above are true and it is absolutely worth checking out to experience for yourself!
Where Customers are Monkey Fans
When you enter The Green Monkey for the first time, you instantly become a “Monkey Fan.” You are greeted by one of the owners who adorns you with a pin to make your “Monkey Fan” status official. Owners Rusty Sutton and Drew Temple’s goal is to make shopping fun for Monkey Fans so they leave happier than when they first arrived. Rusty started the idea for the store under a blue tent each weekend at the Raleigh Flea Market at the NC State Fairgrounds back in the summer of 2007. In the spring of 2013, the dynamic duo moved into the old Royal Mart Hillsborough Street and since then… lots of fun changes have been made to revitalize the neighborhood corner of retail storefronts.
The Bar and Bottle Shop
One of my favorite parts of The Green Monkey is their gorgeous and welcoming bar. They have a rotating draft list as well as an extensive list of bottles and cans. Grab a beer while you shop or pull up a seat at the bar! No one is going to rush you out, so plan to sit and stay for a spell. Even better, bring your laptop, hop on the wifi, and tackle your to do list over a local pint or two.
The Gift Gallery
The Green Monkey is the perfect place to shop for unique and local gifts. Whether you are looking for shirts, gifts for the home, jewelry, or art, there is something for everyone on your list — and yourself. They offer a few original pieces as well as a wide range of items from local artisans and designers including Pass the Gravy, Porch Fly Supply Company, and more.
Bone Appétit Bakery Dog Treats
The Green Monkey is dog-friendly! Not only is it dog-friendly, you can shop for your pooch in the back at Bone Appétit Bakery. Every Thursday night is Family Dog Night hosted by Bone Appétit dog treat bakery. The fun kicks off at 7 p.m.
Happening at The Green Monkey
The Green Monkey offers weekly events such as “Hell, Yeah, I Have Bingo” on Tuesday nights at 7:30 p.m. and Ridiculously Low Price Beer Day every Wednesday. Check out all their upcoming and weekly events. They are also in the process of hopefully adding wine to the menu, as well as adding outdoor seating.
