The Cure for Expensive Taste

So many of us can relate: champagne taste on a beer budget.

I was reminded of this last week while I was at a professional networking event (#TIMAMixology in Chapel Hill) and got to talking to a newcomer to the Raleigh area about expensive taste – specifically, that of her teenage daughter. I told her I had the same problem but we were really lucky here in the Triangle to have access to an incredible cure for that condition: consignment retailers!

Walter Magazine recently published a piece on the topic with pictures that I just cannot get over – so glam, so fun, so real world people solving real world fashion-addict problems! To the photographer, Tim Lytveninko, I tip my designer hat to you, sir.

The article features Pam of dress., John of Villa Consegna, Cathy of Nora and Nicky’s (hi, twitter friends!), Liz of Revolver, and Mary Beth of House of Landor. Since Walter Magazine is all about Sir Walt’s city, Raleigh, all of these retailers are based here in Raleigh, but Durham and Chapel Hill are certainly not left out of the consignment scene, either.

And there are additional consignment retailers in Raleigh and Cary, too. Just yesterday I stopped in to Fifi’s in Cameron Village (who I first started shopping with at their Downtown Durham location) and picked up a Calvin Klein dress and a Max & Cleo dress – both for only $28 total. TOTAL! I intended to purchase both at $28 but imagine my surprise when I got the checkout counter and was told they were both 50% off. THAT NEVER HAPPENS TO ME! (Champagne taste, remember?)
